Last year I took my son to see the Seattle Seahawks play the Detroit Lions in Detroit and we both wore Seahawk jerseys into the stadium until he decided to go buy a Lions sweatshirt cover it.

A 4 hour drive

To Detroit

$50 to park

$220 each for tickets

To get ridiculed

To get mocked

To get booed

But I had my son

My faithful and loyal son

Who stood by my side

In adversity

That is until he didn't

Until he wasted his money

On a $169 Lions sweatshirt

Which I had to fork out $69

Because he only brought $100

Then he covered up

His allegiance

To the Seahawks

Yeah thanks son!

Handed over to the Lions

Where oh where

Where were the other Seahawk fans?

Anywhere?

Somewhere?

NO!

No where!

Ford Field is deafening

Crazy loud

Ridiculously loud

But it went quiet

When the Seahawks won in overtime

37-31

When they scored

I yelled relentlessly

At the top of my voice

Touchdown baby!!!

Touchdown!!!

After constant yelling

I realized

No one else was yelling

I realized

It was time for me to stop yelling

I realized

It was time for me to get us to our car

Without dying in Detroit

Somehow I didn't die

Somehow I lived to tell the story

A year later my son calls

He says

Dad I bought us tickets

For the Lions and Seahawks

In Detroit

Round 2 on a Monday night in September

This time

I will wear a bulletproof vest

While he wears his spiffy new Lions jersey

For the goal is to win twice

And of course

Not die in Detroit
