The Lifeguards of George Washington
This group was led by Captain Caleb Gibbs. The explicit mission of this group was to protect George Washington, the army's cash and official papers. Enlisted soldiers referred to these bodyguards as "The Life Guards."
A unit formed in 1776
Of special men that history depicts
Behind the scenes with no recognition
Men were called to this critical mission
More than soldiers, they needed the elite
Men who would never accept defeat
On their commander they kept a watchful eye
With their defining motto "Conquer or die"
Exceptional men in this operation
Provides us today with much inspiration
