Smooth Prophets

Isaiah 30:10-11 Who say to the seers "do not see," and to the prophets, "do not prophesy to us right things; speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.  Get out of the way, turn aside from the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."

The church desires a message flat and smooth

The people crave a message comfy and soft

Sin and conviction the preachers remove

Self help discourses conceal the cost

Overall, a love for the truth is lost

Eroding the true solid foundation

Covering the altar, a layer of frost

Prayers become empty of desperation

Congregations void of transformation

Smooth prophets, oh they will attract the cheers

Smooth prophets thorns and briars in our churches

Speaking to please all of the itching ears

Many blindly agree, yet no one researches

As they speak haughtily from their perches

They warned Isaiah not to speak anymore

They would say it today where no one searches

We don't want to hear you what you spoke before

We want worship but also want to ignore

Elijah mocked the false prophets of Baal

Too some Elijah didn't seem so kind

But he stood his ground and he would prevail

Is your god on vacation to unwind?

Is he still sleeping? Has he lost his mind?

They cut themselves and cried but saw no fire

They danced and worshipped aloud but were blind

For God the people had no desire

What do we want church services to include?

Do we just want to go through the motions?

Is there something authentic that is viewed?

Will we even wade into God's vast ocean?

Or are we just manipulating emotions?

It's time to pursue God in our devotions

Today may God raise up courageous preachers

May we leave these smooth prophets and go deeper
